Lonely Miracle

Director's Comments: This video is dedicated to all my friends, both online and off, who've given me encouragement over the last two years. Without their constant support, I would not be still doing this today.

This is a video about friendship, and about how through thick and thin, friendship truly is the greatest miracle of all.

Special thanks to Katie and Kelson on this video for making me listen to this song. This video wouldn't've happened without them.

Just Can't Take It

Music: "Scream" by Michael Jackson featuring Janet Jackson

Footage from: Shin Seiki Evangelion

Director's Ratings:

Technical Artistic Timing
9 9 9

Director's Comments: A video that I'd been planning and planning for months, this one was one of the hardest Eva videos I'd ever done because I was trying to do something really different from what I'd done previously. When you've done as many Eva videos as I have, that's pretty tough. But this did wind up being different than my others and I think it came out pretty well.

Special thanks to Ian Roberts on this video for his help.

Tsugaru

Music: "Tsugaru" by RevenG vs. DE-SIRE

Footage from: Rurouni Kenshin - Tsuioku hen

Director's Ratings:

Technical Artistic Timing
8 7 9

Director's Comments: This was one of my "speed" videos that I did a while back that I entered in the AWA Pro competition just because I really didn't have anythign else to enter. I was listening to songs to do AMVs to and I decided to dabble into the latest DDR soundtrack and remembered Tsugaru. The song itself is just outstanding, and Tsugaru is a snowy region of Japan known for its style of Shamisen music, so it made me think of Kenshin.

Eva Reloaded

Music: "Matrix Reloaded Teaser Trailer Audio" by Warner Brothers/Village Roadshow Pictures

Footage from: Shin Seiki Evangelion

Director's Ratings:

Technical Artistic Timing
6 3 8

Director's Comments: This was a video I did in the course of a few days cause I really needed to take a break from the project I was working on at the time, and it certainly helped. Basically, if you compare this scene for scene with the actual Matrix Reloaded trailer, they match up, but that's about all that's nifty about it. Other than that it's pretty mundane. I'm not a big fan of trailers but I just did this one to be silly and to get a chance to put Shinji in Sunglasses. :)

Go Speed Go!

Music: "Speed" by Alphateam

Footage from: Initial D

Director's Ratings:

Technical Artistic Timing
6 6 7

Director's Comments: This is just a very silly video I did because I had a bunch of Initial D footage sitting on my hard drive and I wanted to try a comedy video one more time. It's gone over pretty well where it was shown. Note: massive sexual undertones in this one. [grin]

Closer to God 2: Even Closer

Music: "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails

Footage from: Shin Seiki Evangelion

Director's Ratings:

Technical Artistic Timing
10 10 10

Director's Comments: Well, I'd been wanting to redo this video ever since I got my new equipment, and I finally got around to it a little while ago. I decided I'd post it now for you all to enjoy.

It's the same song choice and theme as the original version... but it's also very different. A lot of stuff has changed, all for the better, I'd say. It's almost a brand new video (at least to me).

Life is But a Dream

Music: "Blue" by Yoko Kanno

Footage from: Cowboy Bebop MASSIVE SPOILERS!!!!

Director's Ratings:

Technical Artistic Timing

WARNING - THIS VIDEO CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM THE VERY FIRST SCENE. DO NOT WATCH UNLESS YOU HAVE SEEN ALL OF COWBOY BEBOP OR DO NOT CARE IF THE ENTIRE ENDING IS SPOILED FOR YOU.

Director's Comments: This was what I thought was my best Cowboy Bebop video. I entered it at the Masters competition at AWA, unfortunately it didn't win anything, but at least lots of people got to see it.

- BEGIN SPOILERS -

Anyways, the concept behind this video is Spike having his life flashing before his eyes as he dies, and coming to terms with what has happened in his life. Was it all a dream? Was it his life? Or was it both?

This is what I think is my most meaningful, and artful Bebop video. I'd been planning this one for longer than any other CBB video, and I think it shows in the execution.

BEST SENTIMENTAL VIDEO - AWA7's Pro Competition

Director's Ratings:

Technical Artistic Timing
8 8 8

Director's Comments: This was the third CBB video I did, and honestly I was 40 seconds into it and was about to scrap it when my roommate saw it and said "What are you thinking??" and smacked some sense into me. I finished the video and it turned out better than I could have ever hoped. Just goes to show you not to stop short and to follow through on things.

This video's very true to Bebop's roots. It's a video about the what makes the three main characters what they are - their inner conflicts and how it effects them as people. It's very sentimental, and fans of CBB will definately identify with it.

The End of Me

Music: "We're In This Together Now" by Nine Inch Nails

Footage from: Shinseiki Evangelion

Director's Ratings:

Technical Artistic Timing
10 10 10

Director's Comments: This video is the culmination of all my work with Neon Genesis Evangelion. It represents the combination of all the different facets I learned about this series, about video editing, and about myself. It's got the raw emotion of Closer to God, the editing skill from Soul of an Angel, and the powerful visuals of Evil Light and my Eva Trailer.

This is most likely my final Evangelion video - at least for a long time. I still have ideas, but this is my sixth Evangelion video, and honestly other series were deserving of my attention. After Eva I moved on to Cowboy Bebop, and I've moved on from that to yet another series which will remain nameless for some time. =)

This is a video very similar to Closer to God in its feel... it's a story of Shinji and his obsessive, uncontrollable love and lust for Asuka, and how despite the fact that he wants to help her, he always winds up hurting her. Even after everything is said and done, he still cannot control himself and winds up doing terrible things to Asuka. I hope you can experience the same raw emotion watching this video that I put into making it.

Lord's Prayer

Music: Heavily edited "Vater Unser (Psalm 23 Club Mix)" by E Nomine

Footage from: X - Yocho

Director's Ratings:

Technical Artistic Timing
9 5 9

Director's Comments: Like the video "Satan" I did previously, this is another one of those videos I just did on a whim - I thought I could do something really cool visually. It's sort of got a story (like Satan did) but the emphasis in this video is more on visual style and powerful imagery to go with the music.

Just something to keep my editing skills up while I'm in between major projects. The whole video took about 4 hours of editing, 2 hours of polishing. The entire editing process was done in a Digital transfer from DVD, Inverse Telecine to turn it back into Film framerate, and then edited in Film framerate, all in lossless huffyuv - so needless to say on my master copy the image quality is f@#$ing gorgeous.

Evil Light REMASTERED VERSION

Music: "Evil Light" by Yasunori Mitsuda

Footage from: Shinseiki Evangelion: End of Evangelion

Director's Ratings:

Technical Artistic Timing
6 8 6

Director's Comments: This video was another experimental piece I did way back earlier this year, around February or so I believe. It's another instrumental one, but this one worked out far better than "Now We Are Free" did (see the last entry on this page).

I basically follow the entire plot of End of Evangelion to music. It turned out to fit surprisingly well. Of course, this means if you haven't seen Eva, don't watch this video, because it essentially one big spoiler.

This video has gone through a video remastering from DVD source as well as a few editing changes. If you downloaded it before February 7th, 2002, you probably have the old version.

BEST ACTION VIDEO - ANIME EXPO 2001
BEST ACTION VIDEO (TIE) - ANI-MAGIC 2001

Director's Ratings:

Technical Artistic Timing
10 9 10

Director's Comments: This is actually the second version of this video ever made. The first was done back in December with my old equipment and poorer source footage. Two weeks before the AX deadline I redid the entire video from SCRATCH, new source footage, new editing, new hardware, the works.

This video is undoubtedly my best so far, and I'm glad it won something at Anime Expo! Thanks to everyone who cheered for it!

Director's Ratings:

Director's Comments: This is probably my only REAL attempt at a pure comedy video. There are lots of funny parts, but I have to admit there were funnier videos at Anime Expo this year, and I'm just glad it made the finals.

I hope you all get a laugh out of this video, I certainly get laughs every time I watch it.

Ghostbusters

Music: "Ghostbusters" by Ray Parker, Jr.

Footage from: Yuugen Kaisha (Phantom Quest Corps)

Grand Prize winner at SakuraCon 2001

Director's Ratings:

Technical Artistic Timing
7 6 8

Director's Comments: I made this video after watching Yuugen Kaisha over again with some friends. When they first asked me what it was, I said "It's like Ghostbusters in the future." Then it hit me. =) So I spent a few days making this video. It's not an artistic masterpiece, and technically it's not very advanced (although the two composite shots took some work) but it's fun, which is why I think it won at SakuraCon.

I Pray

Music: "Satellite" by BT

Footage from: Wings of Honneamise

Director's Ratings:

Technical Artistic Timing
9 9 6

Director's Comments: This is my latest attempt at a very artistic, surreal type video, in very stark contrast to my other Wings video. This one's really deep and weird and I don't think everyone will like it. Hopefully though people will see the message I was sort of putting across in the video, and notice the imagery I'm using. I sent this one off to AnimeCentral not really expecting it to win any awards, but I was hoping at least some people might appreciate it.

Neon Genesis Evangelion - The Movie Trailer

Music: "O Fortuna" by Carl Orff (from Carmina Burana)

Footage from: Shinseiki Evangelion

Director's Ratings:

Technical Artistic Timing
6 5 7

Director's Comments: Well this one didn't make it to the finals at Otakon, mostly because it's not really an AMV. The judges said it was too much Trailer and not enough AMV, which I suppose it's true. =) Anyway it was just a fun little thingy I did over the span of a few days because I wanted to try my hand at editing a movie trailer. Hope you like it.

Hold On

Music: "Everybody Hurts" by REM

Footage from: Marmalade Boy

Finalist in the Drama/Romance category at FanimeCon 2001

Director's Ratings:

Technical Artistic Timing

Director's Comments: This video was a work of love. When I first got inspiration for this video, I knew it would be something special, and I think it's one of the most moving videos I've ever made. Marmalade Boy is one of the most emotionally charged series I've ever watched, and it's a shame more people haven't seen it. Hopefully people will go out and watch it after seeing this.

Next Year

Music: "Next Year" by Foo Fighters

Footage from: Wings of Honneamise

Director's Ratings:

Technical Artistic Timing
7 8 9

Director's Comments: I really enjoyed Wings of Honneamise. It was a really moving film and one of my all time favorites. Unfortunately Manga butchered the Region 1 DVD of the disc so it looks like crap but that's another story. This video was something I did because I wanted to see if I could make a good video without doing any effects at all. There are no transitions added by me (except the fade at the end, and the 2 in the middle are actually part of the film) and I never even use a second video track.

I was hoping I could make a video which was purely an artistic endeavor. Alan Stoll did something similar later on with his "Anti-Video" and FLCL, but I actually did this video in February so I guess it predates his. =) Although I think his video is a little better than mine in some respsects. ;-)

Special Thanks to Kong Chang on this video for lending me his Limited Edition Japanese Wings of Honneamise DVD, which has an absolutely beautiful progressive, anamorphic transfer of the film. The video wouldn't have looked as good without his help.
